Colour Up Your Life

Q. Does colour affect how you feel?

A. 100% YES!

Of course it does - brand managers, marketing gurus, advertising executives... all use colour to manipulate how we emotionally respond to product x y & z. Simply changing a colour can not only alter our immediate emotional response, but also physical responses such as heart rate, respiration and blood pressure.

I've spent years studying and working with colour. My interior design background utilised every trick in the book, applying colour (and light) to create the appropriate environment for whatever room I happened to be working on - from the multi floral maximalism of the 80's (think early Laura Ashley) to the 'neutralisation' of the noughties, leading to the current 'greynaissance' poetically described by the flamboyant Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen.

So it makes perfect sense that the colours we dress in not only affect the way we feel, but will also affect the way others see us.

How can you fail to feel anything other than joy when you look at the outfit in this picture?

There are all sorts of books, articles and reference works that offer guidance on what different colours mean and what colours you 'should' be wearing to convey different messages. I prefer a more holistic approach. Wear the colours you love, the colours that make you feel fabulous, the colours that give you confidence and reflect your own personality - the colours you are intuitively drawn to.

I'm a huge fan of Lisa Newport, from Lisa Newport Style who really understands colour and style to reflect your own unique self. I thought about Lisa, browsing some of my pink collections. I love her philosophy of being a 'flamingo amongst a flock of pigeons', which always makes me smile.

But like me (and most importantly) she wants to empower women.

There are so many headwear styles and colour options for every woman who's confidence has been shattered by hair loss. Whatever colours make you smile - My advice is to style it up YOUR way. I'm always happy to help with 'how-to' hints and tips and can be contacted directly for one to one support.

The colour pink can be calming and relaxing in paler shades or conversely stimulating in more vibrant tones such as fuchsia . It is associated with femininity, love, kindness, confidence and energy.
