I was lucky enough to spend Zoom time with Aly Davidson from Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce. "Tell me about why you do what you do and who you help" she asked. That was easy... I told her about meeting Sue, back when we could meet people. Aly was clearly moved and went on to publish this article about Ranfire Design from my virtual chat with her:-

Vintage, feminine and sexy!
I’m talking to Sue - a gorgeous woman, filled with insecurities and fear about her hair loss.
“Can I still feel feminine - never mind sexy? Will people stare, or worse, laugh at me? Am I losing my identity? I don’t even like looking in the mirror so how can I ever face people? I want to hide away and be invisible.”
These are real comments from real women that I’ve heard, not just from Sue, but from many chemotherapy patients and alopecia sufferers. I want to wrap my arms around Sue and tell her she IS beautiful inside and out, and I want her to believe that more than anything else.
It’s not until hair loss came to Sue, that this outgoing, busy, confident woman wanted to shrink away from the world. At the same time dealing with feelings of guilt because the treatment that is saving her life, should be causing her so much anguish. Her head is sensitive, cold and itchy. Patchy clumps of hair and naked scalp are a constant reminder of the self-loathing that she feels.
Life is a gift to be lived to the full:- to be joyful, playful, loving and embraced every single precious moment and Sue needs to feel confident enough again to do just that.
I completely understand everything Sue feels – I really understand! I can give her a helping hand towards regaining her confidence. To not only look but feel fabulous, so that she can face the world again instead of hiding away.
This is what I heard when I asked Debs Butcher why she created her Staffordshire Start-Up, Ranfire Design.
Debs carried on to tell me …
"Firstly, I developed my headwear to be comfortable – so comfortable that you forget it’s there. Then of equal importance, I designed it to be versatile, so that it can be worn all sorts of ways (Jo loves the ponytail effect, because she had a mastectomy and feels that draping something over her front makes her feel less ‘conspicuous’). Most of all, my headwear is stylish. So much so, that women with or without hair can enjoy creating looks or making a statement – whether that’s vintage, elegant, cheeky, subtle or simply chic.
With so many style options, Sue and other ladies just like her can express their own personality, and I feel that it won’t be long before they have the confidence to be their fabulous selves again."
We are finding that so many of our new local businesses are being born from caring for others. This is only one such story.
